Consideration of the Law

In response to my sermon on Colossians 2:16-19 ("Life Without Rules"), Alfamax responds with his own take on observance of the law...

I reckon there are a few things worth keeping in mind before throwing the baby out with the bath water.

  • There are about 320 direct quotations of the Old Testament in the New Testament and about 1,000 inferences.

  • Matthew 5:17-18 has to be worth keeping in mind here also.

  • Some biblical scholars say we're saved for the moral law, not from it.

  • But I don’t think it’s the 100% observance to the law that ought to be ones goal, from what I can tell the law was established as a parameter because the human race is blind to its own sin. The major problem with ignoring the moral law or simply blowing it off as irrelevant, is that one sin can lead to many more and usually more severe ones at that, to the point where the person is so entrenched in sin they literally write their own destiny and I don’t think that can end well for that person.
